Making our family life more eco-friendly

Making our family life more eco-friendly

When we hold our baby in our arms, we start to think that we want them to have everything - to be happy, fulfilled and healthy in this world.

Today, the condition of our planet is a major concern, not only for us who live in the present, but also for future generations. As far as we can see, the predictions and consequences are becoming more and more far-reaching.

The word sustainability is the order of the day and has to be part of our daily lives - whether through the conversations and information we share or the actions we take. It's important to raise awareness and, wherever possible, try to pass this idea on to our future generations.

As parents, we can continue our journey of trying to support and help our planet with the actions we've already practised and we can add other actions that can be related to our baby's care and day-to-day life. Making our baby ecological.

We realise that this takes time, but we think it's a great initiative and will only benefit the planet that our children will inhabit in the future. Babies make a lot of mess (perfectly normal), but we can get round this and take actions to look after and preserve our planet, so that our baby becomes environmentally friendly and lives a greener life.

One of the categories we talk about the most here on the blog is sustainability and we couldn't let this topic pass us by. The best thing is that we're connecting the theme of sustainability with baby's well-being. It's perfect! Being sustainable should come from each of us and our actions.

So today we bring you some more tips that can be useful for making us and our baby even more environmentally friendly.

  • You can choose to use bamboo spoons or cups for your baby's meals - they come in various shapes and sizes;
  • You could try using bin liners or biodegradable nappy bags;
  • Let's think about using cotton swabs or washable equipment when changing nappies (another alternative, especially if you're out and about, could be to use biodegradable baby wipes);
  • You can create your own cleaning products by adding ingredients such as vinegar and bicarbonate of soda;
  • Spend more time in the garden, if you have the opportunity;
  • Take a walk in the local nature reserve;
  • Let's put a gardening activity into practice - plant a fruit tree or create our own plantation with the various vegetables and fruit for our meals during the day;
  • Shop at the local market - from the grocery store, bakery or local markets, if you have the chance;
  • Buying second-hand can be a great option - you'll find great finds;
  • Recycling objects can be a great family programme;
  • We should avoid spending too much time in front of the screen, particularly at the end of the day;
  • Using curtains and blinds during the day and keeping the light soft at night will be important in helping your baby to have a good sleep routine;
  • Providing constant activities to do with your baby outdoors can also be a good option - playing catch in the park near your home or going for a bike ride with a car seat to take your baby with you.

In this way, we think we already have a good set of sustainable and ecological practices that we've found, to include in your day-to-day life with your baby. We think it's a matter of habit, because when we start adopting these types of behaviours, not only will the baby start to get used to them and enjoy them in their routines, but the parents themselves will also find that it doesn't make sense to live any other way. The planet and future generations will thank us and continue with the effort and work that must be done together on a daily basis.

What about you? Would you add any more tips to the list we've shared with you today? What does it mean to you to look after our planet and introduce this practice to your children? We want to know your experience. We want to know your opinion
