The First Year as Parents

The First Year as Parents

We all have new experiences throughout our lives, some good and some not so good. However, one thing they all have in common is that almost all of them involve that first day when we're completely anxious and where the various expectations that, in one way or another, always end up being created are set aside to put an end to some doubts we had.

We can talk about the first day, week, or year. These are the first moments, behaviors, and situations we encounter. Given such a context, what is the most appropriate way to deal with them? Are we doing things right? Is this supposed to happen? Well, there are many questions, and good questions.

But let's return to the beginning of this post—the first year. Specifically, the first year of becoming parents. A year of complete ignorance, even though we spend nine months understanding certain situations and aspects that we can, in advance, try our best to be prepared for any circumstance. In addition to all this management, there are a thousand and one aspects to consider throughout the entire context.

The perfection of the first year is unpredictable; trying to predict some things seems feasible before they happen. However, when we encounter situations, we want them to be resolved in the best possible way, always being ready to ensure our baby has everything they need. A calm and thoughtful approach is completely unlikely, if not impossible. The first year brings many new experiences and allows us to experience each day and each situation. It's a unique phase, in which parents are placed in a new context and, therefore, will have to create their own path and manage it as they see fit.

Today we wanted to talk a little about the first year of becoming parents. What are the first feelings and concerns, all mixed together in a real roller coaster. Management is essential, but we believe it won't always be possible to think about it, simply because it has to be something that happens in the moment, and our decision-making may still be a bit out of whack.

It's a year that truly tests our resilience and allows us to get to know ourselves better, allowing us to find ourselves in different contexts and understand how we will handle a specific situation. It's a true phase of self-discovery, allowing us to compromise in certain areas, improve on things we didn't do often, or be more persistent in certain moments that we might not have given much importance to before.

We know it's a first year of transformation and self-discovery. It's challenging because, although there's a nine-month preparation period, it's often said that true change begins at birth. The world will be the same, but with different priorities and mindsets. It's incredible to think that a being becomes dependent on us and that, from that moment on, we'll always have someone to care for and who will make us think and see situations differently.

Furthermore, your baby's first year is a period of great transformation, as they are constantly growing physically and psychologically. Everything involving their movements, the various discoveries you make over the weeks, and the perception of how they will face each situation requires attention. However, in the sense that it should also be taken in a calm way, in the sense of enjoying each victory with the little ones and getting to know each other more and more — after all, parents are their best friends and companions on this journey of discovery — thinking about one day at a time is essential.

Trying to do our best to keep them safe and happy will always be our first priority. However, knowing how to manage all the changes, new dynamics and the entire psychological and physical part is challenging and requires all the availability (the one we have and the one we don't have), so that we can get through this year with tranquility and with a lot of love that comes from the day you know you are going to be parents and that becomes even more real when you have your little ones in your arms.

Today, we wanted to touch on this first year of our little one's many emotions, changes, and life. It's fascinating how much can change in a year and how much they grow. It's challenging, but we believe it will always be worth it for them and their happiness.

What about you? How was this first year of being parents? Any highlights you'd like to share? Any tips? We want to know your experience. We want to know your opinion.
