Having our own factory

Having our own factory

Nowadays, the emergence of a new clothing brand is something that is happening quite often. Thinking of the idea, organising it, planning, creating, producing and presenting it to the consumer. Being a brand that behaves directly with the consumer is common in the various digitally native startups.

However, what we think is new in this topic we bring you today, is the fact that these new brands put back on the table the factor of possibly buying or building their own factories. Let's say it would be a way to "cut out the middleman" when we think about the production of their pieces.

The main advantage of having their own factory is the fact that these startups can use it to produce specific product lines and, with that, they can innovate in the manufacturing process. Becoming specialists in a certain type of production can be an added value for their brands and for possible services that they can extend to other brands.

We can also mention another advantage - buying or building factories can be beneficial for the brand, when we address the issues of reducing production time and quality control. It is in the hands of each brand to understand the processes that are more beneficial to it and with that to be able to work more with the reality of production and not depend on third parties (or at least reduce that aspect). It is a great advantage, no doubt.

With such advantages, we should also look at the other side of this context. Cutting out this middleman is not always successful, especially when we talk about recent brands that work directly with the consumer. However, this level of vertical integration works best for brands with established demand and no other competing investments for funding. But, it's all about work, organization and what we want to invest and visualise for the brand.

We can talk about our example. Wedoble emerges in the opposite way to what is more recurrently happening today. The idea of creating the brand has its origin in a company that already provides production services for countless brands and, mainly, is a specialist in the main characteristic of Wedoble - knitwear. It is a brand with more than 20 years, the result of a company that already has more than 40 years in the textile industry.

Wedoble emerges as an impulse and an investment that the company really wanted to make. To embrace a new adventure, to create something new and to explore nem markets were the main reasons for the creation of Wedoble. The combination of all these reasons with the fact that we wanted the brand to be mainly connected with knitwear was the perfect combination. We would have something of our own with the possibility to create and produce everything in our factory, specializing even more and envolving to new production techniques. Everything lined up to work out. And it did.

Having the possibility to say that we have our own factory is an added value. We think that Wedoble appeared in an important phase of the company, allowing us to develop and evolve and to create something of our own. We are proud of the path that Wedoble has taken until today and look forward to a future full of new things, development and growth. It has allowed our factory to grow and to be a great factor in our production.

This way and having occurred in a contrary way to what happened with our brand, we think it is a great investment, but an idea that should be well thought. It is something still not very common, but it is worth every minute to be able to have the two realities close - creative and productive - especially when we talk about brands associated to the fashion industry.

It is a privilege to be able to say we have our own brand and our own factory.

What about you? Did you know about this reality? We would like to know your opinions.
