Being a family

Being a family

The question we want to ask today is: what does it mean to be a family?

When we ask someone to describe what it's like to be or have a family, the answer that comes back is diverse, but it's almost always defined as one of the most important things in our lives. They are those people who have seen us grow up, who have given us and continue to give us support and with who we have that relationship that is so special and so difficult to break. We agree that being a family can vary due to the different relationships that individuals have throughout their lives.

With all the different characteristics that the concept of family can have, we can agree that it is synonymous with support and with people with who we want to share everything that happens and ask for advice. So having your family around all the time makes everything better!

However, when we approach the subject of starting a family ourselves, it's something different and an important step in our lives. It's a life-changing step, because it's a huge responsibility that presents its own challenges and unique moments that we wouldn't have thought of before. It's something that will require a lot from the future mum and dad, but we're sure it will be the experience of a lifetime. We will have the unimaginable capacity to overcome everything in order to have our family well and happy.

With this in mind, we thought it would be appropriate and interesting to share the opinion of a recent mum who works with us, to find out what it's been like at the beginning of her journey to create a family. Essentially, we wanted to understand how this decision has transformed her life, what the whole experience has been like and how she sees her family in the future.

So we asked her a few questions in order to better explain this topic. The first question was to find out if starting a family had always been a desire of hers, to which she replied "Yes, from an early age I had the dream of starting a family and being a mum". Next, we asked her what it meant to start a family, and she explained that "For me, creating a family is the basis of everything. Family is made up of people who share bonds of friendship, who accompany our growth as people, it's where we find affection and understanding and build our world".

We also asked her to describe her decision to start a family, to which she said, "The decision to start a family was one of the most significant and exciting choices of my life. It was always planned as a couple and marked by the beginning of our marriage and then our decision to create a new life out of the love we share."

We asked the new mother what her experience has been like, to which she said, "It's been a unique and rewarding experience, despite all the challenges and tiredness. It's a constant learning experience, almost every day there's something new, but it's undoubtedly the best experience I could have". We also wanted to find out what the main challenges and discoveries are during this period, and she added: "There are many challenges in a mother's life. In the beginning, you have to deal with the unknown, you don't have answers to most of your questions and you're unsure if you're doing the right thing. And then time management is undoubtedly another big challenge. With motherhood I discovered a new way of being and looking at life, appreciating what's really important. I've discovered new capacities for the challenges of everyday life and a resilience I hadn't imagined."

To end our conversation, we asked him to describe his family in one word or phrase and how he saw it in five years' time, to which he said "We are a family that loves and supports each other unconditionally" and added "In five years' time I imagine my family stronger and more united. Perhaps bigger and happier".

This example, which we wanted to share with you, seems to us to be the perfect example of all the words we can use to define what family is. However, we believe that the definition of the concept of family will always be different from person to person.

In this situation, it was inspiring to realise what our new mum's whole experience has been like. Family really is a key pillar in our lives and starting to build a family is something that makes us think differently and get to know ourselves better through the constant learning we receive along the way.

To talk about family, it would make perfect sense to share this experience with you. We thank the latest mum for sharing her experience with us and wish her all the best!

What about you? What does family mean to you? Do you identify with this example we've shared with you? What was your experience like building your family? We want to know your opinion
