Today we want to talk a little about protecting the little ones. We have already addressed some topics on how to protect your baby's skin or possible situations that may cause different reactions at the same stages of growth. In today's post, we take a more internal approach to this topic their immune system.
We often hear about the immune system, but we wanted to research it a little more and understand the small things that can influence it and how the little ones can boost it and make it increasingly able to defend itself and feel protected.
We know that the immune system is responsible for protecting our bodies against the various harmful external agents that surround us. In the case of babies, their immune system is still developing when they are born, going through several stages of growth that familiarise them with their surroundings and give them immunity for future situations. Basically, the idea is that children have to go through these stages, as they are normal and will make them stronger.
However, we noticed that when researching this topic, some questions arise. We believe it would be interesting to discuss these questions here, to understand a little more about the topic:
- The first question is to understand what the immune system is and how it works it is a set of cells and organs that protect the body from possible infections using its own mechanisms. As mentioned at the beginning, this system is still underdeveloped at birth, so babies are fragile beings who need help fighting possible infections.
- A second question is whether the type of delivery may be linked to how the baby's intestinal flora works we found a positive answer that came with an explanation newborns delivered by caesarean section have more fragile intestinal flora, so they are more exposed to possible infections than babies delivered vaginally.
- The third question relates to breast milk and its composition we understand that breast milk contains probiotics. Breastfed babies have naturally richer intestinal flora, due to the boost provided by breast milk to our little ones' defences and immune systems.
- The fourth issue concerns bifidobacteria, which are found in some food packaging labels, such as yoghurt. Well, bifidus bacteria are probiotics found in large numbers in the intestinal flora of babies fed with breast milk:
- The fifth issue concerns feeding babies with infant formula the first 1,000 days of life are important for a baby's growth and development, and breast milk is the best option. If this is not possible, there are infant formulas with similar characteristics that can help with intestinal flora, even if the baby is not breastfed. Before making any decisions, it is necessary to consult a health professional.
- The sixth and final issue that we considered interesting is related to the early development of the immune system the bacterial group that makes up the immune system begins to form immediately after the baby is born and develops during the first year of the baby's life.
Well, these were just a few questions that we found interesting because they were enlightening. However, we imagine that there are many more questions on this topic, as we are addressing the baby's defence and how it gradually begins to become more protected. Once again, we are dealing with a phase that little ones go through. To ensure greater peace of mind throughout the process, more and more clear and objective information is needed to clarify any legitimate questions parents may have and show them that the process they are going through is normal.
What about you? How did you learn about all these developments in your little one's immune system? How did you respond? Any tips you'd like to share with us? We want to know your experience. We want to know your opinion.
